About mcgees2PLUS
mcgees2PLUS is a Plymouth-based group formed in February 2020. mcgees2 is husband and wife duo, Annie and John McGee. PLUS are - from time to time - Beverley, Carly, Judy and Vince. (Plus others!) As individuals we have all been involved in many shows and with other groups across the South West over the last ten years but never under the one roof. Between us we've been part of local Fringe events - Plymouth Fringe, Waterfront Festival and History Festival - and fringe events elsewhere in the South West. We've played pubs, churches, church halls, community centres. We've performed indoors at hotels and conferences and out of doors on the Hoe. Some of us have even performed in theatres. We've played to an audience of three (if you include the dog) and an audience of two hundred and twenty three.
mcgees2PLUS promotes and brings to life ideas devised from within the group to be performed in places and spaces that are not associated - normally - with "theatre". So, as a for instance, a piece set in a hotel room to be performed in a... well, you get the general idea
JOHN (Writer, actor, director)
John worked in early years' teaching for
over twenty years where his creative urges
were satisfied by a combination of
multi-sensory story telling and madcap
whole school projects.
Most of which would now be condemned by
Health and Safety.
'Cinderella' with ballroom scene set in a fifties' style diner (AKA the school hall) and food served up by roller-booting kitchen staff anyone? Oh , and the girl herself arriving on the back of a motorbike.
John's creative urges are now more safely sublimated in writing, acting and - occasionally- directing.
Over the last four years in the lead up to the 2020 commemorations of the Mayflower's sailing to America he was very busy with both the writing - and production - of his three PLYMOUTH-PLYMOUTH plays - a less than reverential take on the whole Mayflower 'story' and its place in history in general.
The first play - PLYMOUTH PLYMOUTH: HOE DOWN - was performed in 2016 as part of the Plymouth Fringe Festival
The second - PLYMOUTH PLYMOUTH: SO GOOD THEY NAMED IT TWICE - has been performed at the Waterfront Festival (2018) and at Plymouth Fringe (2019)
It was also performed, here in Plymouth at the Crowne Plaza hotel, for the National Women's Register Conference as one of their main events - again in 2019.
John still hopeful of being able to finalise the trilogy with PLYMOUTH PLYMOUTH: ARE WE THERE YET? - at some point in 2022 so he can actually get the Mayflower - and its passengers - to America - and the current day! At last!
ANNIE (Stage Manager)
For many years Annie was involved with early years’ education in London and then, until recently, here in the South West
At college she studied textiles and her fascination with design and colour has carried on over into the area of jewellery. She now combines her jewellery making business with her involvement in mcgees2PLUS.
At college she also first met John. (Was this now, in retrospect, such a good idea?)
